SPEAKERS

Rejane Spitz

Graduated in Industrial Design from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1979), graduate in Visual Communications from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1979), Masters in Graphic Design at Central School of Art & Design, London (1983) Doctorate in Education from Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (1993), Postdoctoral Fellow in Electronic Art at the University of California Berkeley (2002) and was Visiting Scholar at the Space Sciences Laboratory, where she conducted research project for NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) - and Post-Doctorate in Electronic Art at CADRE Laboratory for New Media / San Jose State University, California (2003). She is currently Associate Professor at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and Coordinator of the Laboratory / Center for Electronic Art (LAE / NAE) of the Department of Art and Design at PUC-Rio.

She supervised about 20 theses and dissertations for Masters and PhD in the last 10 years, and participated as a jury of numerous bunkers and Defense Contest for Teachers at several universities. Her art work and research has been presented and published in exhibitions and symposia related to the areas of Design, Computer Graphics and Electronic Art in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, Finland, France, Spain, the United States and Uruguay. She is a member of the editorial, curatorial and educational institutions of various organizations, such as ACM SIGGRAPH, USA (since 1991) - where she serves as Global Outreach Coordinator "of the Education Committee; of Leonardo / International Society for the Art, Science and Technology, USA (since 1992) which serves as a member of the International Advisory Board and as co-coordinator of the Global Crossings Project, Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts (ISEA), England, since 1992, Digital Art Museum, Germany (since 2001), Sociedad Iberoamericana de Grafica Digital, Mexico (since 1999), Studies in Design Magazine, Brazil (since 1994), Brazilian Society of Information Design, Brazil (since 2005), among others.

She has served on the sustainability issue, actively participating in discussions on issues related to the environment, global warming, etc..
She is currently involved in a project related to the issue of deforestation and reforestation in Rio de Janeiro. Activity developed in partnership with the Department of Geography at PUC-Rio and the Secretariats of the Environment in Rio de Janeiro, both in its municipal and state level. Also participates in an international project on "Intimate Science", with Roger Malina, the journal Leonardo, trying to think of ways to generate knowledge on environmental issues for the population.
